This program carefully screens and trains volunteer adults to work 1:1 with young adults. The Coach assists the young person develop a detailed plan to include:
- personal and career goals through age 25,
- educational and training plans, with specific details of where, when and how,
- income and expense projections,
- identification of family members/ adult friends who support the plan,
- living arrangements,
- contingency plans.
Through collaboration with Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Montgomery County, Future Link screens youth coaches and provides a customized training program. After the coach successfully completes the training, they are matched with a youth seeking an adult's assistance. Youth coach training is offered three times annually with CASA through a formal collaboration. Youth coaches are expected to make a 1-year commitment to a young adult. Youth coaches meet with their assigned youth weekly and meet monthly with the NET Program Director, and attend periodic post-training "in-service" events.
